On October 31, 2000, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted resolution 1325 - which explicitly recognizes the important role that women play in conflict prevention and peace building.



The historic placement of the first statute of a woman, Bertha von Suttner, in the Peace Palace on the occasion of its centenary, also conveys the important role that women play in conflict prevention and peace building.
